Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc is an ode to traditional ageing. Where other Sauvignon Blancs from the region strive for simplicity, this Estate variant offers impressive depth and a richer mouthfeel through partial ageing on the fine lees. 

The wine undergoes cold fermentation in stainless-steel tanks to preserve aromatic intensity, resulting in a velvety wine full of notes of passion fruit, lime and a recognisable saline feel. Bottled at 13,5% for just that little extra power and character.

Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc: Maritime mastery

The Benguela Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc is considered by many to be the 'sweet spot' of the estate in Walker Bay. After a careful resting period in the cool cellars on the edge of the lagoon, the wine has transformed its youthful energy into mature elegance. What makes this release special is the unique terroir; the vineyards benefit from the cool sea mist and mineral soils, which provide slow ripening and the development of layered aromas ranging from tropical fruit to green spice.

At Brouwhoeve, we appreciate the Estate Sauvignon Blanc for its complex simplicity. It is an honest wine that has been given time to form its characteristic layers of flint and lemongrass. The combination of different harvest moments provides a considerably fuller texture and a more intense tasting experience than many other wines from the region. This is a classic 'cool climate' Sauvignon Blanc that shows extreme proximity to the ocean is always rewarded with exceptional refinement.

Flavour & character

Aroma An intense and enticing bouquet. Immediately recognisable are the rich notes of passion fruit and pineapple, complemented by aromas of lime zest, freshly cut grass and a subtle spicy touch of green pepper and elderflower.

Taste The mouthfeel is full, almost oily and refreshing. On the palate, layers of grapefruit, gooseberry and a striking saline minerality remain beautifully balanced with the lively acidity. The 13,5% alcohol provides a beautiful structure in which the fruity core is supported by an elegant grip.

Finish A long, elegant finish. The fresh notes of citrus and minerals slowly fade away and make way for a clean memory of mild floral spices.


Serving tips & pairings

  • Serving: The ideal way to allow the aromatic complexity to show fully at its best is to serve the wine between 8°C and 10°C in a slender wine glass.

  • Gastronomy: Excellent with fresh seafood such as grilled prawns, oysters or ceviche. Also fantastic alongside dishes with goat’s cheese, asparagus or a fresh salad with fennel.

  • Moment: This is the ideal wine for a sunny terrace visit, a light lunch or as a refined aperitif where the maritime freshness can take centre stage fully.

  • Pro tip: The minerality of this wine makes it a surprisingly good partner for light Asian dishes with lime and coriander.
