Benriach The Original Ten is a 10-year-old Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from Scotland with a soft, fruity, and layered character. 

This Benriach matures in three types of casks: bourbon casks, sherry casks, and virgin oak, which provide notes of orchard fruit, honey malt, pear, nectarine, roasted oak, almond, and spiced vanilla.

After a redesign of the range in 2020, based on the very first Benriach Single Malt from 1994, this spirit has blended its classic fruitiness with a modern, layered complexity. What makes this release special is the extremely precise marrying of the three different cask influences, resulting in a whisky that feels both fresh and mature.

At Brouwhoeve, we appreciate the Original Ten for its complex simplicity. It is an honest whisky that has had the time to breathe and develop its characteristic layers of honey and roasted oak. The combination of the rich Speyside style and the subtle addition of peated spirit (a 'trace of smoke') provides a significantly fuller texture and a more intense flavour experience than many other 10-year-old single malts. It is a classic dram that shows that craftsmanship and a bold cask selection are always rewarded with unparalleled refinement.

Taste & character

Aroma A rich and inviting nose with notes of vanilla, caramel, toffee, honey, ripe fruit, citrus, supported by subtle sweetness and refined cask influence.

Taste Full-bodied and balanced on the palate, with layered flavours of peat smoke, maritime notes, oak, vanilla, caramel, toffee, honey, ripe fruit, citrus, warm spice, pepper and a smooth, rounded structure.

Finish A medium-length, elegant finish. The fresh notes of pear slowly fade away, making way for a warm memory of vanilla, apricot, and a light nutty malt finish.


Serving tips & combinations

  • Neat: The ideal way to fully appreciate the layered 'triple cask' influences.

  • With a drop of water: A few drops of water unlock more of the sweet honey tones and the delicate fruitiness of the nectarine.
