Benguela Cove Cuvée 58 Brut is an ode to traditional ageing. Where other sparkling wines strive for simplicity, this Méthode Cap Classique offers impressive depth and a richer mouthfeel through bottle ageing of at least 12 months on the lees. 

This wine, a unique blend primarily of Sauvignon Blanc complemented by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, results in a velvety wine full of notes of candied apple, ripe pear and a recognisable floral feel. Bottled at 12.5% for just that little extra power and character.

Benguela Cove Cuvée 58 Brut: The sparkle of Walker Bay

The Benguela Cove Cuvée 58 Brut is considered by many to be the 'sweet spot' of the estate by the ocean. After careful ageing in the cool cellars on the Bot River lagoon, the wine has developed its lively sparkle into mature elegance. What makes this release special is the dominant role of Sauvignon Blanc in the blend, providing a unique freshness enhanced by the cool maritime breeze that blows through the vineyards each day.

At Brouwhoeve, we appreciate this Cuvée 58 for its complex simplicity. It is an honest sparkling wine that has been given time to rest, with partial malolactic fermentation (60%) providing a considerably fuller texture and a more intense tasting experience than many other bruts. The craftsmanship with which the fine mousse is created through the traditional method results in a wine that shows precision in the vineyard is always rewarded with exceptional refinement.

Flavour & character

Aroma An intense and enticing bouquet. Immediately recognisable are the rich notes of candied apple and pear, complemented by aromas of freshly cut grass, brioche and a subtle floral spice that comes to life as soon as the mousse touches the surface.

Taste The mouthfeel is full, creamy and refreshing. On the palate, layers of white fruit, lemon curd and a striking minerality remain beautifully balanced with the lively acidity. The 12,5% alcohol provides a beautiful structure in which the fine bubbles create a persistent, elegant sensation.

Finish A long, elegant finish. The fresh notes of apple and citrus slowly fade away and make way for a clean memory of mild spices and a floral finish.


Serving tips & pairings

  • Serving: The ideal way to allow the aromas and fine mousse to show fully at their best is to serve the wine between 8°C and 10°C in a flute or narrow wine glass.

  • Moment: This is the ideal wine for every festive occasion or as a refined aperitif, where the sparkle of the '58 facets' can take centre stage fully.

  • Gastronomy: Excellent with fresh oysters, ceviche or sushi. Also fantastic alongside a creamy dessert or even French toast for a luxury brunch.

  • Pro tip: The structure of this Cap Classique is powerful enough also to accompany light Mediterranean chicken dishes with lemon beautifully.
